The genesis of the idea came from the two business men, Jack Hirschfeld (Urban Edge Development Group) and Walter Dolen (All Things Good) and also the artist Christine Goldbeck who all wanted to expand the arts in Pottsville. They used the opportunity of the planned Allied Artists’ show at the Pottsville Library and the forthcoming art show of the NYC/Argentina artist (Agustin Espinosa) to start the project. Kathy Connelly of Allied Artists was instrumental in getting local artists interested in the project from the very first. The Library and both businesses where on the same block so that was why it was originally called “A Block of Art.”
